Organic Mulled Wine Recipe

Organic Mulled Wine

This is a great holiday treat for guests or for general enjoyment on a cold day in front of the fire. The recipe is very simple, similar to mulled cider. All you’ll need is a good red wine, mulling spices, and some organic sugar. You can serve it hot in mugs or chilled and served over ice as a cooler.

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart organic dry red wine
  • 1/3 – 1/2 cup organic sugar (to taste)
  • 2 Tbs. organic mulling spices
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 cup blanched almonds (optional)

Directions:

Pour 1 quart red wine into a large saucepan. Place 2 Tbs. Organic Mulling Spice inside a large tea bag and tie off the end. Place the tea bag in the saucepan. If you are looking for a Swedish style Glögg recipe, add raisins and almonds to the red wine. Gently simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and remove tea bag. Serve hot in mugs or chill and serve over ice for a cooler. Garnish with an orange peel and cinnamon stick.

Note: If you don’t have a tea bag, just place the mulling spice loose in the saucepan and strain out after you’re done simmering. Also, consider adding a splash of brandy for a little oomph.

Storing Mulled Wine:

If you have any used wine or whiskey bottles, you can store your mulled wine. A month of aging will enhance the flavors. Properly stored mulled wine will improve with time.. If storing wine for more than a month, fill the bottles as high as possible and seal them tight. Store upright to prevent leaking. It’s natural for a thick sediment to form at the bottom over time. When serving, avoid disturbing this sediment.
